Martin Accordians, More Music & Friends

As you already know, one of the things we love the most about being in Louisiana is the music, and the good times here at Betty's continue with much music, music, music.

A group of us visited Martin Accordions in Scott to see how they build these fine Cajun squeezeboxes.  The evening included a bit of history about the differences between Cajun and Zydeco music along with the Martin's playing to demonstrate the different sounds.

Pennye on the bass, Jr. on the steel guitar, and Joel with his Martin Accordion entertained us with a bit of country, Zydeco and French Cajun music.  Martin's logo is the crawfish on the billows.

Everyone listening intently to the session.  Here is a link to a video of the old time Cajun music from the Martin Family CD which they performed for us live.  On the video Pennye plays the triangle, Jr. plays the guitar and Joel leads on the accordion.

The Martins start with a variety of woods and colors that the buyers can select from.  They build 15 to 20 accordions at a time.  They hand make everything except the billows that come from a small family operation in Italy.  If you order one today there is a four month wait for one of these $2500 beauties.  Martin Accordions is a must see to learn more about Cajun culture and music.

We really don't need to leave Betty's to hear great music.  On Sunday we all gathered for a jam session.

A grand time was had by all.

Ray made jello shots for all,  Here he serves Nanc, Marie, Jim and Betty.  He even made a color to match Betty's jewelry. 

Other than being old we realized that all the guys have something else in common.  Can you see what it is?  A bit strange when you realize that Betty only has 17 RV spots.

Because so many of Betty's RVers become friends, every time someone leaves we all gather to wish them safe travels until we see them the next time.  This is something that doesn't happen very often at other RV parks and another reason why we love Betty's.
